Visiting Sardinia

Sardinian, spoken by around 2 million people, is the collective name of the vernacular linguistic varieties spoken in most of the island of Sardinia, Italy. Located closer to Africa than Italy, Sardinia’s sandy shore along with its colored waters compete with any beach in the world. Sant'Antioco and San Pietro, off the coast of southwestern Sardinia, sit a cluster of charming islands still unaffected by too much tourist development. The seaside resort of Santa Teresa di Gallura offers just as much fun as does Costa Smeralda aside from all the glitz and glamour. Heading farther east, Palau and Arcipelago di la Maddalena are generally laidback, too. The archipelago itself contains many exciting opportunities for its guests, while the main motive is to preserve a relaxed environment.

Sardinian-speaking Countries

Sardinia is almost exclusively spoken in the island of Sardinia.

Here are some of the basic Sardinian phrases that you might use:

  • A faeddas s'ingresu? (Do you speak English?)
  • Praghere. (Nice to meet you.)
  • Ite ti nas? (What is your name?)
