Visiting Andhra Pradesh, India

The Telugu language is spoken by about 75 million people and is the official language of the district of Yanam. Telugu is one of the four classical languages in India.

Andhra Pradesh is the fourth largest state of India and home to the most revered temple in India, Tirupati. It is a subtle perfumed concoction of mysticism and modernism. Visitors enjoy an eclectic list of things to do, from viewing Islamic architecture of the itr-laden Hyderabad to visiting the idyllic coast of Visakhapatnam.

If you are travelling to Vizag, Vijaywada or Tirupati, some basic knowledge of the Telugu language would go a long way in helping you find your way in and around the city.

Telugu-speaking Countries

Apart from India, there is a strong Telugu diaspora in the United States, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Fiji, Bahrain, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

Here are some of the basic Telugu phrases that you will use often:

  • Neevu ela unnaavu? (How are you?)
  • Nenu kshemamgaa unnaanu. (I am fine.)
