It is extremely helpful for travelers to Haiti to have a local contact within the country. And, knowing at least the basics of the language, Haitian Creole, is a must.
About 12 million people speak Haitian Creole, sometimes simply called, Kreyòl or Creole. Most Haitian Creole-speakers live in Haiti where it is an official language, along with French.
