Jèrriais is the form of the Norman language spoken in Jersey, in the Channel Islands off the coast of France. It has been in decline over the past century as English has increasingly become the language of education, commerce and administration. There are very few people (5,300) who speak Jèrriais as a main language and, owing to the age of the remaining speakers, their numbers decrease annually. Despite this, efforts are being made to keep the language alive.

Jersey’s coast is 48 miles long. Exquisite swaths of sandy shore fringe the south, east and west sides, and rugged cliffs — good for walking and cycling — frame the north, and countless tranquil lanes lie in between. Its richly textured history is also brought to life by a clutch of excellent museums.

Jèrriais is a language primarily spoken in the island of Jersey. A handful of people on the island of Stark are also fluent in Jèrriais.
