Latin is the official language of the Vatican. Latin was once considered a dead language, but now its rustic charm is helping the language increase in popularity. Latin is spoken fluently by the Roman clergy and Latin scholars. Vatican is the world’s smallest sovereign city-state, and the Holy City sits atop the low-lying Vatican Hill just west of the River Tiber.
